In the heart of Deep Ellum, you will find Independent Bar & Kitchen in a rustic old building with exposed brick walls on the inside - something I would expect to see in more historic cities like Boston. It was a nice, warm touch that reminded me of my New England roots.

My husband and I heard about a new restaurant and had to take a drive to see what it was all about. When we got there, we were surprised to see the new restaurant was surrounded by several new shops, other restaurants, a parking garage, nearby apartments, new houses going up across the highway... It was like a mini Shops at Legacy! Turns out it's the Toyota Music Factory. Where have I been?! Oh right... home with two kids.

Finally! A date night with the husband... without the kids!!! Awesome. I know.
We decided on Cork and Tavern, a place we probably wouldn't take the kids. Don't get me wrong; the kids would have been fine there. It's just that the area that the restaurant is in is very college esque. It's lively, and fun, and young and that's probably not where my children need to be on a Saturday night.

Downtown Historic Roanoke is finally getting some "unique dining experiences" just as their town sign claims. Craft and Vine is the newest tasty edition to Roanoke's growing city center. Be prepared to wait or call days in advance if you want weekend reservations. Upscale dining isn't something new to Roanoke, but the limited choices has everyone clamoring to try something new.
