After an alcohol overload at the San Antonio Cocktail Conference, it was time to head home back to Fort Worth. (Check out my pictures on instagram to see highlights of my trip.)
To break up the 5 hour drive, we decided to stop and grab a bite to eat. We wanted something quick like a burger but didn't want fast food (no offense Mickey D's). Using Yelp's handy, dandy app, I was able to find Hopdoddy Burger Bar. It had some pretty good reviews. And upon further research of Hopdoddy's website, it appeared that Jimmy Kimmel also liked Hopdoddy. That was good enough for me!
We got there around 2:30 on a Sunday afternoon and there was a short line. By 3:00 the line to order had reached the door! In spite of the busyness, our food came out in the expected amount of time, warm to the touch, and cooked to the right temperature.
Since we were eating at a burger place, we all ate burgers (well the smart ones did). Those of us who ate burgers loved them and we were happy to discover that there is a Hopdoddy in Fort Worth close to us. The one who didn't (my youngest) ordered a grilled cheese and was very disappointed. It is just a burger bun and cheese and he couldn't get over that the bun was not put together the "right way" (see photo).
The good news is that there is a kids' menu. You just have to ask for it. Your choices are grilled cheese (I do not recommend) or cheeseburger. Each kid's meal comes with fries and a drink. And there are plenty of burgers to choose from on the regular menu for everybody else.
An added bonus for all of you cocktail lovers out there... a full bar! Yup! Right smack in the middle of Hopdoddy is a genuine bar with liquor bottles, glasses, a bartender... You don't see that at your local Wendy's. They also have boozy milkshakes. They sound heavenly. I so wanted to try one, but after several days of drinking I needed to give my body a rest. If you have had one or have one soon, let me know how it tastes!
