In the heart of Deep Ellum, you will find Independent Bar & Kitchen in a rustic old building with exposed brick walls on the inside - something I would expect to see in more historic cities like Boston. It was a nice, warm touch that reminded me of my New England roots.
Since it was still Sunday Brunch when we arrived, my husband and I drank $3 Mimosas and Bloody Marys. The Mimosa was filled to the tippity-top, and the Bloody Mary was seasoned perfectly.
Warning: Every song Independent plays is sooooo good! I want their playlist! One too many of these cocktails and you will be singing along.
They were out of Steak and Eggs. I was bummed but I also had my eye on the Bacon Cranberry Burgers. The cranberry had just the right about of sweet to tart ratio. I would have never thought to put cranberry on burgers before, but it works!
My husband had the Blueberry Pancakes & Fried Chicken, a nice deviation from Chicken and Waffles. Just take a look at those pancakes. They're huge! My husband is going to need more syrup.
We will definitely be back. The service was great, and I do still want to try those Steak and Eggs. Plus, check out their website; their cocktail menu looks fabulous and there is something for all you craft beer drinkers, too.
