In the heart of Deep Ellum, you will find Independent Bar & Kitchen in a rustic old building with exposed brick walls on the inside - something I would expect to see in more historic cities like Boston. It was a nice, warm touch that reminded me of my New England roots.

Like most families, we enjoyed a Mother's Day Brunch this past Sunday. We chose Mash'd cause they were one of the few places that could accommodate 13 people on a busy holiday. And I was quite pleased they gave us two servers to help move service along. It also kept those mimosas flowing which is kind of important on Mother's Day!

While not the best place to bring the kiddos, I'll definitely be coming back for date nite or sneaking away for a date lunch or two. The adult cocktails were light and refreshing while maintaining their boozy element. We all agreed the food was fabulous. Everyone's fish was fresh and cooked to perfection. There's not many places that can make lobster rolls taste as good as theirs did - especially way down here in the middle of Texas! But TJ's did and I'd have to say their lobster roll even rivaled some of those made in New England. I should know
