Downtown Historic Roanoke is finally getting some "unique dining experiences" just as their town sign claims. Craft and Vine is the newest tasty edition to Roanoke's growing city center. Be prepared to wait or call days in advance if you want weekend reservations. Upscale dining isn't something new to Roanoke, but the limited choices has everyone clamoring to try something new.
Our wait was over an hour - and to be honest, I didn't think it was unreasonable for a weekend night. I've waited longer elsewhere. The kids were happy (this was one of those rare occasions we let them play their iPads at the restaurant) and we were happy (mom and dad both had cocktails from the bar).
When we did get seated, it was at a cocktail table meant for 2. We were a party of 4. I don't think I've sat so close to my husband since we first starting dating. Thank you, I guess? The hard part was when our food came and there really wasn't enough room for our plates, but we somehow managed.
We started with the Trio of Hummus. I loved the Pecan. I wish I could eat it every day! And when our meals came, we were all pleased. Everything came out together and tasted just as it should. The salad was exceptional for just being a salad. Somehow their way of throwing together lettuce and tomatoes tastes a lot better than when I do it! You should definitely try theirs.
I liked the Old Fashioned. I always forget how strong it is. It probably should be my regular drink. I always complain how weak most drinks are. The Day Spa tastes a bit too healthy with all the bits. I was hoping it would taste like some other cucumber martinis I've had in the past, but instead I kept checking to make sure no green bits were stuck in my teeth. It's a good thing I was here with my family and not trying to be cool on a first date!
